Installing a mixer tap looks straightforward until you're under the sink wrestling with corroded fittings in a space the size of a shoebox. The old tap won't come off, the new one doesn't quite fit the existing holes, the flexible hoses are too short, and now there's water everywhere. That's when you call us. We do this every day, remove the old tap, adapt if needed, fit the new one, and test it properly so it doesn't leak the moment you walk away Common across Sheffield, from Hillsborough to City Centre.

Whether it's a kitchen mixer, a bathroom basin tap, or a bath mixer with a shower attachment, we handle it all. We'll check the water pressure is suitable, make sure the tap is secure, connect hot and cold supplies correctly, and test under full pressure. If you need new isolation valves fitted or the tap holes enlarged, we'll sort that too.

We operate across all Sheffield areas. Bring your own tap or we can supply and fit quality taps at trade prices. Our 12-month guarantee is included with our membership plan, which also includes £50 off all our services, discounts on parts, £80 off our appliance store, and priority service on our workmanship.

What You Need Before We Arrive

1

Buy the right tap for your sink or basin

Check how many holes your sink has (1, 2, or 3) and measure the distance between them. Kitchen sinks usually have 2 or 3 holes. Bathroom basins often have 1 or 2. The new tap must match, or you'll need a blanking plate.

2

Check if flexible hoses are included

Most modern taps come with flexible hoses to connect to your pipework. Check they're included and long enough (usually 300-500mm). If not, we'll supply them but it adds £10-£15 to the job.

3

Make space under the sink

We need to get under the sink to remove the old tap and fit the new one. Clear out cleaning products, bins, and anything else stored there. It makes the job quicker and easier.

4

Know your water system type

If you're on low pressure (gravity-fed hot water from a tank), you need a low-pressure tap. High-pressure taps (for combi boilers and mains-fed systems) won't work properly on low pressure. We'll check when we arrive.

How We Install Mixer Taps

We've fitted hundreds of taps across Sheffield. Here's our process:

1

Isolate the water supply

We turn off the hot and cold isolation valves under the sink. If they're seized or you don't have them, we'll turn off the mains stopcock and drain the system.

2

Remove the old tap

We disconnect the supply pipes and undo the tap fixing nut underneath. Old taps are often corroded and stubborn, we use proper tools to remove them without damaging the sink.

3

Clean and prepare the sink

We clean off old sealant and grime from around the tap holes. If the holes need enlarging or adapting, we'll do that. We check the sink is solid and won't crack when we tighten the new tap.

4

Fit the new tap

We apply plumber's putty or silicone to seal the tap base, position it in the holes, and secure it from underneath with the fixing nut and washers. We tighten it properly so it's solid but not over-tight.

5

Connect and test

We connect the flexible hoses to the hot and cold supplies, turn the water back on, and check for leaks. We run the tap for a few minutes, check all connections under pressure, and make sure the flow is good.

Common Tap Installation Issues

Here are the problems we regularly solve when fitting taps in Sheffield homes:

Old tap won't come off

Corrosion welds the tap to the sink over decades. The fixing nut is seized and rounded off. We use penetrating oil, heat, and proper basin wrenches to remove stubborn taps without damaging the sink.

New tap doesn't fit the holes

The new tap has a different spacing or size. We can use tap hole converters, blanking plates, or (if the sink material allows) carefully enlarge the holes. Stainless steel sinks are easy, ceramic is trickier.

No isolation valves

Older properties don't have isolation valves under sinks. We strongly recommend fitting them while we're there, makes future tap changes far easier. Adds 20 minutes and £25-£40 to the job.

Low water pressure

You've bought a high-pressure tap but your hot water is gravity-fed from a tank. The tap will dribble hot water. We'll advise on low-pressure alternatives or a pump to boost pressure.

Flexible hoses too short

The hoses supplied with the tap won't reach your pipework. We carry extended hoses and can fit them on the spot. If the pipework is really awkwardly positioned, we might need to add extensions.

Upfront prices, no nasty surprises

We'll always tell you the cost before we start. These are typical price ranges, your exact quote depends on the job.

Got questions? Here's the quick answers.

How much does mixer tap installation cost in Sheffield?
Kitchen mixer taps cost £90-£140 to install across Sheffield and surrounding areas. Bathroom basin taps are £85-£130. Bath mixer taps with shower attachments are £110-£180. If we need to fit isolation valves or remove a very corroded old tap, add £30-£60.
How long does tap installation take?
A straightforward tap replacement takes within 2 hours. If the old tap is corroded and stubborn, or we need to fit isolation valves or adapt the tap holes, allow 2-3 hours. We'll give you a realistic timeframe when we assess it, whether you're in City Centre, West Bridgford, or Beeston.
Can you supply the tap as well as fit it?
Yes, we can supply quality taps at trade prices. Tell us your budget and what style you're after (modern, traditional, chrome, brass) and we'll suggest options. You'll usually save money buying through us rather than retail.
Do I need to buy anything before you arrive?
Just the tap itself, if you're supplying it. Make sure it suits your sink (right number of holes, right pressure rating). We carry all the fittings, washers, hoses, and sealants needed. If isolation valves are required, we'll supply and fit them.
What if my new tap has different spacing to the old one?
We can use adapters or blanking plates to make it fit. If the tap is single-hole and your sink has multiple holes, we'll cover the unused holes. If the holes need enlarging, we'll advise if it's possible for your sink type.
Will the tap work with my combi boiler?
Yes, combi boilers provide mains pressure to both hot and cold. Most modern taps are designed for high pressure. If you have a gravity-fed system (hot water from a tank in the loft), you need a low-pressure tap or a pump.
Can you install a boiling water tap?
Yes, we install Quooker and similar instant boiling water taps. They need an electrical supply and a separate under-sink tank. Installation costs more due to the electrical work and specialist connections, typically £150-£250 labour depending on complexity.
What warranty do I get on tap installation work?
Our 12-month guarantee is included with our membership plan, which also includes £50 off all our services, discounts on parts, £80 off our appliance store, and priority service on our workmanship. If a connection we've made leaks or the tap works loose, we'll fix it free of charge. Tap manufacturers provide their own warranty on the tap itself.
