HomeGeneral PlumbingTap Installation

New taps transform a kitchen or bathroom, but they need fitting correctly. The right connections, proper sealing, secure fixing, and no leaks. DIY installations often leak from the base, drip from connections underneath, or the taps work loose because they're not secured properly. In Sheffield's older properties around Crookes and Broomhill, non-standard pipe positions make tap fitting trickier than it looks.

We fit all tap types: kitchen mixer taps, bathroom basin taps, bath taps, and wall-mounted taps. We connect to existing pipework, fit new isolation valves if needed, seal properly, and test under pressure. Most installations take 45 minutes to 1 hour.

We operate across all Sheffield areas. No call-out fee. All tap installations carry a 12-month guarantee.

Types of Taps We Install

Kitchen mixer taps

Single-lever or twin-handle mixers. Deck-mounted (through sink) or wall-mounted. Pull-out spray heads for washing up. We fit them all.

Bathroom basin taps

Pillar taps (separate hot and cold), basin mixers, or mono-bloc single-hole mixers. We match tap centres to your basin holes.

Bath taps

Deck-mounted on the bath rim, wall-mounted for freestanding baths, or bath/shower mixers with diverter. We ensure correct hot and cold positioning.

Wall-mounted taps

For basins without tap holes or freestanding baths. Pipe connections are concealed in the wall. Trickier to install but look very clean.

What's Included in Tap Installation

Removal of old taps

We disconnect and remove old taps carefully. If fittings are seized, we cut them free without damaging the sink or basin.

New isolation valves

We fit isolation valves on hot and cold supplies if there aren't any. This lets you turn off water to the tap for future maintenance without draining the system.

Secure fixing

We mount taps properly with backnut and washers, seal with plumber's putty or silicone, and tighten securely so they don't work loose.

Connect and test

We connect flexible hoses to supplies (or rigid copper for wall-mounted taps), turn on water, check for leaks, and test hot/cold operation and flow.

Common Tap Installation Issues

DIY installations often have these problems:

Leaking from the base

No sealant under the tap base or the fixing isn't tight. Water seeps underneath and damages the worktop. We seal properly.

Loose taps

The backnut isn't tightened or there's no retaining plate on thin sinks. Taps move when you use them. We secure properly with top-hats or backing plates.

Wrong tap centres

The tap holes don't match the tap centres. Pillar taps on basins designed for mono-bloc. We check compatibility before ordering.

Undersized flexible hoses

Cheap hoses restrict flow. Kitchen taps especially need good flow. We use quality hoses with correct bore size.

Got questions? Here's the quick answers.

How much does tap installation cost in Sheffield?
Kitchen mixer taps cost £85-£130 fitted across Sheffield and surrounding areas. Bathroom basin taps cost £75-£120. Bath taps cost £90-£150. Wall-mounted taps cost £120-£200.
What's involved in a typical tap replacement?
We turn off the water, disconnect and remove old taps, fit new isolation valves if needed, mount and seal the new tap, connect supply hoses, and test. Standard deck-mounted taps take 45 minutes to 1 hour. Wall-mounted taps take 2-3 hours.
Can you drill new tap holes in my sink?
We can drill stainless steel sinks carefully with hole saws. Stone and ceramic sinks need specialist drilling. If the material is brittle, we'll advise on risks.
Do you supply the taps?
We can supply common tap brands, or we'll fit taps you've bought yourself. If you're ordering online, check tap centres match your sink before buying.
Why are my taps loose?
The backnut underneath hasn't been tightened properly or the sink is too thin and flexes. We retighten with backing plates on thin sinks.
Can you fit taps to any sink or basin?
We need matching tap centres. Most kitchen sinks have a single hole for mixer taps. Basins have 1 hole (mono-bloc) or 2 holes (pillar taps). Check before buying taps.
Will you reconnect my dishwasher after fitting kitchen taps?
Yes, if your dishwasher connects under the sink, we disconnect it while we work and reconnect it afterwards. No extra charge.
Do you remove and dispose of old taps?
Yes, included. We disconnect, remove, and dispose of old taps properly. We clean the area before fitting new ones.
Can you fit taps same day?
Yes, if you've got the taps ready and the pipework is accessible. We carry common fittings and isolation valves, most installations are completed same-day.
