HomeGeneral PlumbingShower Installation

A new shower needs proper water supply, correct drainage, and if it's electric, dedicated wiring. The type of shower you can fit depends on your water system: combi boilers suit mixer showers, low pressure systems need electric or pumped showers, and high pressure systems can run anything. Poor installation causes weak flow, temperature fluctuations, leaks, and electrical faults. In Sheffield's mixed housing stock, we see everything from Victorian low pressure systems to modern unvented cylinders.

We install all shower types: electric showers, thermostatic mixer showers, power showers, and digital showers. We assess your water system first, recommend what'll work best, and install it properly with correct pipe sizes, waste connections, and electrical work if needed. Most installations take 3-5 hours.

We operate across all Sheffield areas. No call-out fee. All shower installations carry a 12-month guarantee.

Types of Showers

The right shower depends on your water system:

Electric shower

Heats water instantly from the cold supply. Works on any system, independent of the boiler. Needs dedicated wiring from the consumer unit. Good for low pressure systems.

Thermostatic mixer shower

Mixes hot and cold to set temperature. Needs good pressure on both supplies (1 bar minimum). Best for combi boilers or unvented cylinders. Better flow than electric showers.

Power shower

Mixer shower with built-in pump for boosted pressure. Needs hot water cylinder, not suitable for combi boilers. Excellent flow even on low pressure systems.

Digital shower

Electronic controls, precise temperature, remote activation. Requires power supply and processor unit. High-end option for new bathrooms.

What's Included in Shower Installation

Water supply connections

We connect hot and cold supplies (or just cold for electric showers) with correct pipe sizes. Mixer showers need balanced pressure, we test and adjust.

Waste connection

We connect the shower waste to the main drain with proper fall and venting. Shower trays need waste traps, walk-in showers need linear drains.

Electrical work (if needed)

Electric showers need 10mm cable from a dedicated 40-45A breaker in the consumer unit. We run cable, fit pull-cord switch, and test. Part P compliant.

Mounting and sealing

We mount the shower unit securely, connect it, seal penetrations, and test for leaks. Everything is tested under full load before we leave.

Common Shower Installation Problems

Poor DIY installations cause these issues:

Weak flow

Undersized pipes, low pressure, or the wrong shower type for the system. Mixer showers on low pressure systems never work well.

Temperature fluctuations

Non-thermostatic showers vary when other taps are used. Fitting a thermostatic shower or pressure balanced valve fixes this.

Poor drainage

Shower trays installed without proper waste fall. Water pools in the tray or drains slowly. The waste pipe needs correct gradient.

Electrical faults

Electric showers on undersized cable or shared circuits trip the breaker. They need dedicated 10mm cable and their own breaker.

Got questions? Here's the quick answers.

How much does shower installation cost in Sheffield?
Electric showers cost £180-£300 installed across Sheffield and surrounding areas. Mixer showers cost £200-£350. Power showers cost £280-£450. Shower trays cost £150-£280. Prices include plumbing and electrical work.
How long does shower installation take?
Electric showers take 3-4 hours including electrical work. Mixer showers take 2-3 hours. Complex installations with new trays or pumps take 4-6 hours, whether you're in City Centre, West Bridgford, or Beeston.
Which shower is best for my home?
Combi boiler: thermostatic mixer. Low pressure system: electric or power shower. High pressure unvented cylinder: any type. We'll assess your system and recommend.
Can you install a shower over my bath?
Yes, we mount the shower on the wall, run supplies, connect waste, and fit a screen or curtain rail. Bath/shower combos are very common.
Do I need an electrician for an electric shower?
Our engineers are Part P qualified and can install the shower including electrical work. No separate electrician needed.
Why is my shower weak even though the taps are fine?
The shower might be fed from smaller pipes, or it's a mixer shower on low pressure. We'll test pressure and recommend either re-piping or switching to an electric/power shower.
Can you install a digital shower?
Yes, we install Mira, Aqualisa, and Grohe digital showers. They need power supply, processor unit installation, and careful setup. More complex than standard showers.
Will a power shower work with my combi boiler?
No, power showers need a hot water cylinder to draw from. Combi boilers can't supply power showers. Use a thermostatic mixer or electric shower instead.
Do you remove old showers?
Yes, included in the price. We disconnect, remove, and dispose of the old shower. We make good the wall where needed.
