HomeBlocked DrainsDrain Jetting

A blocked drain starts as a slow trickle, then becomes a backed-up sink, then a flooded bathroom or patio. And once it's blocked, it'll block again unless you clear it properly. High-pressure jetting is one of the fastest ways to clear it, we use jets delivering up to 250 bar of pressure to shift fat, grease, hair, debris, and even tree roots. Blockages in older Sheffield properties often have years of accumulated buildup, and jetting cleans the inside of the pipes completely.

Our engineers bring the jetting equipment to your drain. We connect it to the opening or access point and run the jet down the pipe, breaking up the blockage and flushing debris away. It's safe for copper, plastic, and cast iron pipes, much safer than harsh chemicals that damage your plumbing. Most blockages are cleared in 30 minutes to an hour, and the inside of your pipes comes out clean, reducing the chance of future blockages.

We cover all Sheffield areas with response times of within 2 hours. No call-out fee. Our visit includes the first hour's labour when you book with us. Our 12-month guarantee is included with our membership plan, which also includes £50 off all our services, discounts on parts, £80 off our appliance store, and priority service. If the same drain blocks again due to the same cause, we'll clear it free.

Signs Your Drain Needs Jetting

⚠️

Slow draining sink or bath

Water takes ages to go down, and you might notice a slight smell. This usually means buildup on the pipe walls that's restricting flow.

⚠️

Recurring blockages

The same drain blocks every month or two. This isn't a one-off debris jam, it's likely grease, hair, or roots building up. Rodding only clears the blockage, not the cause.

⚠️

Gurgling noises from drains

Hear strange sounds when the toilet flushes or the sink drains? This suggests air is trapped behind a partial blockage. Jetting will clear it completely.

⚠️

Water backing up in other fixtures

If one blocked drain affects others (water comes back up the shower when the toilet flushes), you've got a serious partial blockage. Jetting is the answer.

What to Do Before We Arrive

1

Stop using the drain

If it's completely blocked, don't pour more water down it. If it's slow draining, keep water use to a minimum to prevent overflow while you wait for us.

2

Clear the area around the drain

If we need to access an outside drain or manhole, clear away plants, bins, or paving. This saves time when we arrive.

3

Make a note of what's blocked

Is it a sink, toilet, or outside drain? When did it start? Has it happened before? This info helps us work out if jetting is enough or if you need a survey.

4

Have someone available to unlock gates

Some gardens have locked gates or side access. Make sure you or someone's home so we can reach the drain without delays.

How We Jet Your Drain

Drain jetting is a straightforward process. Here's what happens:

1

Inspect the drain

We locate the blocked pipe and check how serious it is. For most blockages, we can jet straight away. If we suspect a collapsed pipe, we'll recommend a CCTV survey first.

2

Set up the jetting kit

We position our jetting van (or use a portable unit for tight spaces) and connect the hose to the drain access point. Our equipment is controlled from the van so we can adjust pressure in real time.

3

Jet the blockage

High-pressure water shoots down the pipe, breaking up the blockage and flushing it toward the main sewer. We work from the blockage outward, gradually increasing pressure until the line is clear.

4

Flush and test

Once the jetting is done, we run water through to flush away all the loosened debris. We check that water flows freely and at normal speed.

5

Optional: Run a camera survey

If you've had recurring blockages, we can run the CCTV camera after jetting to check the pipe is healthy. This tells us if there's damage, roots, or other causes we need to address.

Common Causes of Drain Blockages in Sheffield

Sheffield's housing mix, Victorian terraces, 1930s semis, and newer estates, means we see different blockage causes in different areas. Here's what we encounter most:

Fat and grease buildup

The most common cause. Hot fat poured down the sink cools as it travels through the pipes, sticking to the walls. Over time, it collects hair, food scraps, and soap, forming a solid plug.

Hair tangles

Shower and bath drains collect hair faster than kitchen drains. Combined with soap scum, it creates a stubborn mat that only pressure can shift.

Tree roots in older clay pipes

Properties in Sherwood, Sneinton, and Carlton often have old clay pipes that crack slightly. Tree roots find these cracks and push through, growing inside the pipe and trapping debris.

Collapsed or broken pipes

Pipes more than 50 years old (common in our Victorian and 1930s properties) can collapse from ground movement or corrosion. Jetting alone won't fix this, you'll need a repair.

Misused drains

Flushing wet wipes, tissues, or sanitary products clogs drains. We regularly clear these, always bin them instead.

Got questions? Here's the quick answers.

How much does drain jetting cost in Sheffield?
Single blockage jetting costs £120-£150 across Sheffield and surrounding areas. Multiple blockages or longer drain runs are £150-£200. Jetting plus CCTV survey is £200-£280. Preventive annual jetting costs £80-£120. We quote before starting.
How long does drain jetting take?
Most jetting jobs take within 2 hours including setup, jetting, and flushing. Stubborn blockages or multiple blockages can take longer. We'll assess on arrival and give you an accurate time estimate, whether you're in City Centre, West Bridgford, or Beeston.
Is drain jetting safe for old pipes?
Yes, we adjust water pressure for the pipe material. Victorian clay pipes need lower pressure than modern plastic. If we're concerned about pipe condition, we'll run a CCTV survey first to check for cracks before jetting.
Will jetting clear tree roots from my drain?
Jetting cuts through roots temporarily to clear the blockage, but roots grow back unless you remove the source or replace the pipe. For a permanent fix, we excavate and replace the damaged section with plastic pipe that roots can't penetrate.
What's the difference between jetting and rodding?
Rodding mechanically breaks up blockages with steel rods. Jetting uses high-pressure water to blast through and flush away debris. Jetting is better for fat, grease, and sludge. Rodding is better for solid objects or very stubborn root masses.
Can jetting damage my pipes?
Not when done correctly. We assess your pipe type first and adjust pressure accordingly. Modern plastic pipes can handle high pressure; older clay pipes need gentler jetting. We won't blast fragile pipes with full pressure.
Should I get preventive jetting done regularly?
If you've had repeat blockages, annual preventive jetting helps. But for most homes, avoiding fat down drains and not flushing wipes is enough. We'll recommend a schedule based on your blockage history.
Can jetting clear fat buildup in kitchen drains?
Yes, jetting is excellent for fat and grease buildup. High-pressure water dissolves hardened fat and flushes it away. After jetting, avoid pouring hot fat down the sink, let it cool, then bin it.
